Costa Rica 2021/2022

Updated: Mar 22, 2022

  • Playa Grande: November 15 - December 15

Favorite Local Restaurant: Pots and Bowls. Delicious veg options, smoothie bowls and beverages crafted with care. Friendly service and great spot to work remote while enjoying a healthy meal.

Airbnb Advice: If possible, check out the location of your airbnb before booking. We booked a month with a local airbnb that was unsatisfactory to say the least. When booking a long term stay be sure to read all of it's reviews, especially the negative ones. Typically there is a reasonable explanation for why a stay may have bad reviews.

  • Playa Lagartillo: November 15 - February 11

Airbnb: Cute, cosy one bedroom container home with a large screened in porch/common area. All the reviews I read for this rental were positive and rightly so. It has all the essentials, strong wifi, fenced in property, it is a four minute walk to the beach and the airbnb host is responsive and helpful.

Location: 25 minute drive to Tamarindo. Best if you have your own transportation or can afford taxi services. If you enjoy long walks, you can journey along the beach either 45 minutes North to Playa Avellanas or South to Playa Negro for local restaurants or mini-marts.

Villareal: February 11 - March 1

Hostel: Located by the post office on the road to Tamarindo. Booked on Airbnb, this dog friendly hostel was a great place to stay in between monthly rentals. There were travelers that would stay 1-3 nights and longterm renters in private rooms. Everyone shared the same kitchen and most people living in the building had a dog or two.

Location: Located at the edge of villareal on the road to Tamarindo. Only a five minute taxi or bus ride into Tama. Good location for Villareal.
